Meta Pixel setup for Instagram and Facebook ads

Drop in a metaPixelId and the storefront fires the full ecommerce event set — view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout, purchase — for Instagram and Facebook attribution, and nothing fires until the visitor accepts the consent banner. From Growth, the Conversions API sends the same events server-side with your own access token.

How it works

How it works

  1. 1

    Add your Pixel ID

Paste the metaPixelId into shop settings — no code edits.

  2. 2

    Wait for consent

The pixel stays silent until the visitor accepts the consent banner.

  3. 3

    Fire ecommerce events

    view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase fire automatically.

  4. 4

    Back it with server-side data

From Growth, add your own access token and the Conversions API sends the same events server-side.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the Meta Pixel fire before a visitor accepts cookies?
No, every marketing pixel including Meta sits behind the consent banner and stays silent until the visitor agrees.
What is the Conversions API and why does it matter?
It sends the same purchase and add-to-cart events from the server rather than only the browser, which recovers attribution that iOS privacy changes block on the client side. It is on Growth and above and uses your own access token; the browser pixel is on every plan.
Do I need a developer to set up the Meta Pixel?
No, pasting the metaPixelId into shop settings is enough — the storefront already knows how and when to fire each ecommerce event.
Can the pixel feed a lookalike or retargeting audience?
Yes — because the full ecommerce event set fires, including add_to_cart and purchase, Meta’s ad tools can build retargeting and lookalike audiences from real on-site behaviour rather than page-view data alone.
